Parametric Process begins with the phenomenon of an earworm, in which a piece of music repeats involuntarily in the mind, and with the composer’s experience of hearing it transformed in unfamiliar ways in dreams. Familiar rhythms and melodies are repeated and gradually distorted in the unconscious, yet fragments and traces that hint at the original suddenly reappear. As different elements of the music are transformed in different ways, they move further away from their source while creating an increasingly vivid sense of reality.
Parametric Process는 특정 음악이 의지와 무관하게 머릿속에서 반복되는 ‘이어웜’ 현상과, 그것이 작곡가의 꿈속에서 낯설게 변형되는 경험에서 출발한다. 익숙한 리듬과 선율은 무의식 속에서 반복되며 서서히 뒤틀리다가도, 문득 원형을 암시하는 파편과 잔상으로 되돌아온다. 이처럼 음악을 이루는 여러 요소가 각기 다른 방식으로 변형되는 과정은 원본에서 멀어질수록 오히려 더욱 선명하고 실재적인 감각을 만들어낸다.
